The Three-Card Spread: Past, Present, Future

For revealing what has happened and what is going to happen.

What the Positions Mean:

  • POSITION 1: The past. This is where you have come from and what has occurred. Usually this is something you can confirm because it has just happened.
  • POSITION 2: The present. This is the energy around you now and what is currently happening. If a Court Card appears, this is showing you who is influencing your question and what type of energy they bring.
  • POSITION 3: The future. This shows what you can expect to happen next. Make sure to determine timing for this placement within the spread. For example, when you are shuffling, clearly think or say aloud, “I want to know what is going to manifest in the next three to four months.”

You’ll Need:

  • A deck of tarot cards
  • A peaceful place to work

I have been looking for a user friendly tarot book for awhile now and nothing really stuck out to me as that useful. I found an beautiful tarot deck recently, Crow Tarot, but I didn’t really resonate with the user book that came with it so I did another search on Amazon and came across this one. It hadn’t even been released yet but from the description and written examples I went ahead and preordered it. I absolutely LOVE it and I’m so happy I have it now. It gives you a basic outline of frequently asked questions about tarot, history, and detailed summation of each card and how it relates to the most common questions regarding love, career, and personal development. She gives you suggestions on how to incorporate tarot as a daily practice and how to develop your own intuition all while exuding an extremely honest and positive vibe. There’s nothing dark and scary about tarot, this book illuminates the very special gift that our ancestors gave to us and how to use it to the best and highest good. I’m excited to delve deeper into learning the tarot now that I have a great guide to get me there. Thank you Jessica Wiggan.

I am extremely happy with this Tarot card reading book. It has been criticized for being simplistic; well, I like it that way. As a beginner the number of cards to learn and the different meanings seemed overwhelming. Jessica made it understandable by giving us the basic meanings of the cards. To me this is not overly simplistic. I myself can pick up on the nuances of meanings and put them in context, I just wanted some instruction as to where to begin with the cards.Okay, so the format of the book is beautiful with lots of color and thick pages. What I especially like is, I bought a tarot book prior to this one and the cards were not shown in the description of the card, so I had to find the card in my deck, which I had already shuffled, to see the picture on the card. With Jessica’s book there is a color picture of each card on the page with the description. Then she gives a very brief explanation of the card, which hits right at the heart of the meaning of the card, and then elaborates on that with how to apply the card in the context of a love, work/career, or personal/spiritual spread and then how that meaning changes if the card is reversed (I’m saving the reversal meanings for after I get the upright meanings.)This book gives me everything I need to get acquainted with the cards and begin to develop communication with my intuition and my loving and amazing guiding forces. Definitely would recommend for beginners wanting to do the same.

Started my tarot journey by following this beauty on YouTube, and when she mentioned that she was coming out with a book-I ABSOLUTELY HAD TO GET MY HAND ON A COPY!! I must say that I am not disappointed! This book provides a wealth of information about the different suits, and it breaks down the interpretations into different categories such as career, love/relationship, and spiritual life! Totally recommend if you’re on the road to tapping into and strengthening your tuition!

  12. Reader Rayna

I really like this book! As a novice card reader, I think that it’s a very great resource to use to understand the cards in several different ways, such as general, love, personal/spiritual, finance, and reversed. Of course, using your intuition when reading cards is key, but this is still a great guide if you get stuck or need additional knowledge to go with. If you’re learning tarot or need a refresher or more insight, definitely pick up this book!

I would go so far as to say this book should be on every beginner’s shelf and it continues to be a valuable reference long into tarot proficiency. This book arrived quickly, well packed and protected, in perfect condition and I am very happy with it. The printer, I am pleased to note, has stuck to what works for easy legibility: I mean good white paper and a no-nonsense black font that’s big enough to see clearly without the use of a magnifier. I mention this because too many very nice tarot books when it comes to content fail us in legibility by going for the decorative in their color schemes and fonts instead of for what’s practical and works for everybody. This one is a winner in every way and I highly recommend it as a gift for any tarot enthusiasts in your family.

I like this book as I am applying myself to learning to read the tarot. This book has several things I like, such as each card has a quote of what it is saying (if you boil it all down) example: World card-“Finally, I’ve reached the end stage. Success!” Also, she has a short explanation of the card, what it could mean regarding LOVE, CAREER/WORK,PERSONAL/SPRITUAL or if it shows up reversed. There are colored pictures of the cards based on the Rider- Waite Tarot deck on the page she is discussing the card. In the back of the book are Quick reference charts and she has included tarot spreads. A really great place to start!

Very helpful and I really like how this book gives the meanings of the cards in various aspects (love, work, personal- reverse) and it does not drag out like many other books. It’s very to the point, very helpful for beginners without it being overwhelming. It’s probably the only book one would need to start learning tarot. I think it is extremely well written, and the author clearly thought about the beginner, getting to the point yet being sure to cover the necessary basics. So I would highly recommend this book…. it’s been a great help for my son who is just starting off on his journey. My books were a bit too involved and too drawn out. This book was just right for him. And I went thru it first and I can completely see why he prefers it over many of the others which are either way too drawn out, OR not enough in the sense of explaining how the cards mean various for various situations, as well as some books not teaching reverse meanings. So this has been a huge help to him and he’s taken off with tarot!!! He’s a natural! And thank god for zombie themed tarot cards! LOL! He’s much happier with them then RWS!!! Of course he has one of my MANY decks to compare the cards if he needs it. But so far doing extremely well, and this is the only book he’s reached for. So I’m giving 5 stars. Bc it covers everything – minus dragging things out.
